Do I need an SSL certificate for a website that allows people to make donations over

It is technically a foundation, a non profit organization website, which will allow people to make donations for the cause. Is purchasing an SSL certificate for this site a good idea?
If i have to purchase then which one is better for such a site?

Yes, I would suggest getting an SSL Certificate for your website. SSL certificate encrypts the personal and financial information sent over the web so from the security point of view, it is necessary to have one if you are accepting credit card donations.

I would suggest getting a RapidSSL or a GeoTrust SSL certificate.

It is highly recommended to have a SSL for your website. SSL helps the website owner appear trustworthy and adds a level of security to online transactions.

You may want to check the different SSL Certificates that are offered:

Hope that helps and in case you have any further questions feel free to ask here.

Since your website would be looking forward to receive donations for a cause, it becomes utmost important for the donors to stay assured that the money is reaching in the right hands. Hence, an SSL certificate should be an effective way of building the level of trust while proceeding with the online transaction.

An SSL certificate is very important if you are looking forward to accept payments on your website and it does not matter if it's a Charity website or any other E-commerce website. If you consider an SSL certificate from EUKhost, we will take care of the installation, however, if the website is hosted with some other web hosting provider, you need to take care of the installation.

Thank you for the info Catherine. Though you've stated it, still Im a bit confused and wish to know one thing, that I would like to know is, if an individual who has hosted his/er website with some other hosting provider, wishes to get an SSL from you, would Eukhost provide it? Or the individual need to have a hosting account with you inorder to avail an SSL from you?

              You're welcome.

Yes, we can provide an SSL certificate even if one does not have a hosting plan with us. However, the customer has to take care of the installation in this case. We will provide the SSL certificate key to the customer after the order is received and then the customer has to take care of the installation.

I would advice you to understand the difference between Shared SSL and a Private SSL before heading for placing an order.
