August 6, 2024 / Plesk

This guide helps in understanding how to add a Null MX to Plesk. Adding a Null MX record to Plesk prevents email from being delivered to a domain by effectively disabling its mail services.
Mail Exchange (MX) records specify the servers to which emails for a domain should be routed. This record is essential for receiving email for your domain.

Let us add a Null MX:

  1. Log in to Plesk.
  2. Choose the domain that you want to stop receiving emails from.
Note: Choose the main domain if you want to block all subdomains.
  3. Navigate to Hosting & DNS> DNS.

  4. Create a new DNS record with the type set to MX.

  5. You can leave the host entry blank for the current domain only, specify it explicitly to a subdomain, or set it to * if you want to block for all subdomains.

Note: Verify that the mail exchange server is empty and that the priority is set to 0.
  6. Verify if the domain’s other MX records have been removed.
  7. To save the DNS changes, click “Update”.

  8. Remote mail servers should cease sending emails to the designated domain as soon as they notice the altered DNS.

In this manner, adding a Null MX record to Plesk effectively disables email services for your domain, preventing any emails from being delivered.
