How to administer network traffic in Veeam

July 10, 2024 / Veeam Backup

This information details how to effectively manage network traffic within Veeam. By default, Veeam Backup & Replication utilizes five connections for data transfer. Should the network become strained, you have the flexibility to deactivate multiple connections or modify their quantity accordingly.

Follow the steps:

  1. Go to the main menu and choose “Network Traffic Rules.”
  2. Choose the following new data transfer parameters in the “Global Network Traffic Rules” window:
    1. Uncheck the “Use multiple upload streams per job” box to turn off multithreaded data transfer. As a result, for every job session, Veeam Backup & Replication will only use one TCP/IP transfer connection.
    2. Keep the “Use multiple upload streams per job” option enabled, and enter the required number of connections in the designated field on the right to change the number of TCP/IP connections.

Note: Veeam Backup & Replication checks data integrity during operations like backup and replication. It automatically retries transferring data without stopping the task if a problem is found. Please refer to the Veeam Plug-ins documentation for configuration specifics, as multithreaded data transfer settings may not affect individual backup processes.
