How to change the document root directory of a domain in Plesk (Linux)

This article explains how to change the document root directory of a domain in Plesk. Each domain hosted in Plesk has its own dedicated directory on the server’s file system.

Note: This guide applies to Plesk on Linux servers. Steps and paths may differ on Windows-based Plesk servers.

Follow the steps:

  1. Log in to Plesk.
  2. Select the “Websites & Domains” option from the left-hand side menu.

  3. Select the domain whose root directory you wish to change.
  4. Select the Hosting option under the Hosting & DNS tab.

  5. Locate the “Document root” option and change the path. The path to the website home directory.

  6. This directory houses the document root for your domain, which essentially serves as the primary location for storing all of your web content. By default, the document root is set to the httpdocs directory inside the domain’s root path.
  7. Click the Save button.

  8. You will get a message that the settings were updated.
