How To Configure Directory Privacy Via cPanel

In this article, we will explain how to use cPanel to protect specific directories with a password.

Follow these steps to add password protection to a directory:

1. Log into your “cPanel Account”.
2. Search for “Directory Privacy”, from the Search tools.
   
3. Select the name of the “Directory” that you want to protect and click “Edit”.
   
4. Under “Security Settings”,  select the Password protect this directory check box.
5. In the Enter a name for the protected directory text box, you need to type a name for the protected directory.
6. Click on “Save”.
   
   
7. Under Create User, enter a username in the “Username text box”.
8. In the New Password text box, enter the “user’s password”.
9. Retype the “user’s password” the password in the Confirm Password text box.
10. Click “Save”.
    
    

Follow these steps to remove password protection to a directory:

1. Login to “cPanel Account”.
2. Click on the “Directory Privacy”, from the “Search tools”.
3. Select the “Directory” whose password protection you want to “Remove” by clicking its name.
4. Click on “Edit”.
5. Under “Security Settings”, delete the Password protect this directory check box.
6. Click on “Save”.
