This tutorial will guide you through the steps to create a backup using R1Soft’s Continuous Data Protection (CDP) Backup Agent on an offsite server.

Steps to Create a Backup:

  1. Login to the CDP Server:
    1.  Open your web browser and navigate to the CDP Server login URL.
    2. Enter your login credentials to access the server. After logging in, you will be directed to the “Hosts” page.
  2. Select the Host:
    1. On the main page, click the “Hosts” icon located at the top, as shown in the image below.
    2. From the list under the Host Name column, select the correct host. You can also use the filter option to help find the desired host.
  3. Open the Host:
Once you have selected the appropriate host, click on the hostname. A new window will appear with the host details.
  4. Start the Backup Process:
In the host window, click on the “Backup and Restore” button. This will open the backup wizard.
  5. Schedule the Backup:
On the next page, click the “Schedule Backup” button to proceed.
  6. Define Backup Settings:
The “Schedule a new Backup Task” page will open. Here, you’ll need to define the following settings:

    1. Save Task: Check the box to save the backup task.
    2. Enabled: Check the box to enable the backup task.
    3. Description: Provide a unique name for your backup task (make sure it’s different from any existing backup tasks).
    4. Recurrence: Choose the frequency for the backup. Options include:
      1. Now (Immediate backup)
      2. Minutely
      3. Hourly
      4. Daily
      5. Weekly
      6. Monthly
If you want the backup to run immediately, leave the setting as Now, and the backup will begin right away.
  7. Configure Backup Task Options:
You can customise the backup task with the following options:

    1. Only keep the last X recovery points: Check this box to limit the number of recovery points stored and enter the desired number.
    2. Defragment data files when finished: Check this box to defragment data files once the backup completes.
    3. Verify recovery point when finished: Check this box to verify the recovery point after the backup task is completed.
    4. Devices to Backup: Select “All active devices” if you want to back up all devices. Alternatively, choose “Only selected devices” and select the specific devices you want to back up.
  8. Save the Backup Task:
Once you have configured the backup settings, click the “OK” button to save the backup task.

That is it! If you have scheduled the backup to run immediately, R1Soft’s CDP Backup Agent will begin backing up your files right away on your offsite dedicated hosting server. If you have scheduled it for a later time, the backup will occur according to the frequency you have set.
