How to Convert an Addon Domain to an Account using WHM

In this guide, we have explained how to convert an addon Domain to an account in WHM.

Let us follow the steps: 

  1. Log in to WHM.
  2. Click on the “Transfer” option from the menu available.
  3. Click on the “Convert Addon Domain to Account” option.

  4. Use the search box to locate the addon domain you want to convert.

  5. Under the Actions column, click Convert next to the desired domain.

  6. You will be redirected to a new page. Fill in the information as given below:
    1. Username

      Enter or verify the username for the new cPanel account.

    2. Contact Email (Optional)
      Add a contact email address for notifications related to this account.

    3. Package (Optional)
      Select a hosting package to assign resource limits to the new account.

    4. Preserve Account Ownership
      Keep this option enabled if you want the new account to retain the same owner as the original cPanel account.

  7.  Under Selection Details, choose which data should be transferred:
    1. Website Configuration (Selected by default)
      Includes document root, virtual host files, and SSL certificates.

    2. Custom DNS Records (Selected by default)
      Transfers any custom DNS entries for the domain.

    3. Email (Selected by default)
      Moves email accounts, mailing lists, and webmail data to the new account.

    4. Databases
      Select this option if you want to transfer databases associated with the addon domain.

    5. Subaccounts
      Includes FTP accounts related to the addon domain.

  8. Use the Configure button next to each section to customise what is included.
  9. After reviewing all settings, scroll down and click Convert to begin the process.

  10. Once completed, the addon domain will be successfully converted into a separate cPanel account.

By following the above steps, you can successfully convert an addon domain into a separate cPanel account using WHM. This gives you greater control over the domain’s resources, security settings, and account management, making it easier to manage websites independently.
