This article explains how to move WordPress from a subfolder to the root directory. Before making any changes, back up your account.
Follow the steps:
- Prepare WordPress for the Move:
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to Settings > General.
- Update the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) from example.com/WordPress to example.com.
- Save the changes.
- Move WordPress Files to the Root Directory:
- Log in to cPanel and open File Manager.
- Enable Show Hidden Files in the settings.
- Navigate to your subfolder (e.g., /WordPress).
- Select all files and click Copy.
- Change the destination to public_html and confirm.
- Go to public_html to verify the files are copied.
- Delete the old WordPress subfolder.
- Log in to cPanel and open File Manager.
